Single stage or two stage piston
The air compressor is equipped with two types of pistons: a single-stage pump and a two-stage pump. The single-stage air compressor draws in air through the action of a single-stage piston and compresses it to the required pressure. 150 PSI is the maximum pressure a single stage piston can produce. Single-stage reciprocating air compressors require higher CFM values than two-stage air compressors.
The two-stage compressor has two pistons, which can complete the work of a single piston in a single-stage air compressor. However, the work of the two stages is slightly different because the process does not end with compression. Instead, the piston compresses the air, allows it to cool, and then compresses it again. The two-stage type is more effective because the air is cooled as it is compressed, increasing its density. The two stages use their air pressure without losing it at any point. These can reach a maximum pressure of 200 PSI.
If noise is an issue, choose oil lubrication over oil-free lubrication. Oil-free machines do not require oil to lubricate the flat areas of the machine. Oil-lubricated air compressors are more effective than oil-free air compressors.
Provide thermal protection in the air compressor as a switch to shut down the motor when it overheats. Considering the investment made, the customer should choose a product that offers a thermal protection switch.
